Introduction of a Future Lawyer who has a Passion for Food

Today is my 22nd birthday and I feel that I've learned a lot in my twenty-two years of life. Now as a second-semester senior, I am in the phase of reminiscing about my time at the University of Oklahoma.  Throughout college, I have taken every opportunity to get involved on campus and give back to the community in some way. I am actively involved in the Campus Activities Council executive team and the Student Alumni Board. Through organizations like these, I've made some of my best friends, the people I will miss the most when I graduate.

As a Psychology/ Pre-Law student, I will hopefully be attending law school in the fall with the aspiration to go into corporate law. Being a Tulsa native, I am the biggest Tulsa "fan" you will ever meet. I never miss an opportunity to brag about how amazing Tulsa is and I truly believe it is a city on the rise. Post-graduation, I hope to attend law school out of state, preferably in Texas. However, after I am done exploring different cities, I think I would like to return to Tulsa to settle for the long-term.

A few of my favorite things is a pretty long list, that typically starts with food. I am a big foodie and love trying new things. During a recent trip to Baltimore, I tried an Argentinian BBQ restaurant and it was delicious (would HIGHLY recommend Argentinian food!). I also recently found out that I am allergic to eggs, which is extremely disappointing because my main breakfast food has always been some sort of eggs. I guess you can get allergic to food even after eating it for years and years, who knew? However the dish I could any time of the day would be alfredo pizza with spinach on top!

I try to keep myself as busy as possible, but I always make time to exercise and call my mom, at least once a day. Those two things are my favorite ways to release stress and I make them a priority in life. However, when I do have free time, I try to spend it with my friends or by catching up on tv shows. I am not someone who can get work done when the TV is on in the background, so for me to efficiently get work done, I have to be focused. I sometimes have to carve out time in my schedule to catch up on my favorite TV shows! My favorite movie of all time is Clueless, but I also love that it is an adaptation of my favorite book Emma, by Jane Austen.

( Emma was first written by Jane Austen and later adapted into many TV shows and movies- Image Provided by Wikipedia)

Between school, extracurriculars, family, and friends, I would say I am a busy body (like all college students) but I think taking time to do what makes myself happy and keeps me calm is one of the biggest lessons I've learned in my college career!

  1. Hi Amandeep. I think it is so fun that you like all types of food! I've never even realized that there are Argentinean restaurants but I'll have to look into it. I've actually never visited Tulsa until earlier this semester but it is such a cool place. The Philbrook Museum is really pretty and I think it is one of the hidden gems of Oklahoma.

  2. Hi Amandeep,
Congrats on graduating this spring! I am graduating, too, and I am excited but sad to be leaving people I have met this year. Growing up in Oklahoma all my life, I have been to Tulsa once and did not visit anything! I would love tips and places you like even though I think OKC (aka where I am from) is the best haha. Also, sorry about the eggs. ): That sucks. I could not imagine eating something for so long and then bam, you're allergic to them. I had a friend where they developed a lactose intolerance just like two years ago.

  3. Hi Amandeep,
In my opinion, food is a very wonderful part of life. I love that someone else feels the same way. Alfredo pizza with spinach sounds great, I'll have to try it sometime! Also, exercise and keeping in touch with parents are two great goals to keep in mind as much as possible. This semester, I've embarked on an exercise journey, and I feel so much better than before.

  4. Oh wow, how cool that you were writing this post on your 22nd birthday, Amandeep! Happy Belated Birthday! And it's always nice to meet people involved in CAC; there are so many campus events that I put in the announcements that come from CAC, and if there is an upcoming event you are involved in or excited about, let me know; the most fun events to put in the announcements are the ones connected with students actually in the class.
And you have my condolences for the egg allergy: I love egg dishes, and my husband does too, so we eat a lot of eggs in this house. We would be in trouble if we developed the egg allergy, that's for sure! A food adventure I would like to have someday is to eat an ostrich egg! (Well, part of one... they are so huge!)
Then, of course, there are the great mythological eggs that do not have anything to do with eating, like the great Hiranya-Garbha, the Golden Egg, of the Indian creation story. Garbha means more like a womb or embryo than an egg exactly, but there is some great art that shows it looking very egg-like. :-)

    1. Ms. Gibbs, Thank you for recommending the story about the great Hiranya-Garbha! It has actually been so hard adjusting to not being able to eat eggs, I don't even know what to eat for breakfast! HAHA, the story will help!

  5. Hello Amandeep!!
Funny that we ended up in the same class! I loved reading your introduction, especially the part about food because you gave some great recommendations that I'm going to have to try out for sure. I also can NOT believe that you are graduating this semester... Oh how the time has passed. I wish the best for you this semester and hopefully you make the best memories with your friends.

  6. Hey Amandeep!!

I call my mom almost every day too! I swear she is my best friend I can literally tell her anything and everything. I am such a foodie too I used to have a foodie insta (kinda embarrassing lol) that I would post on. I am always wanting to try new things. Good luck with law school I wish you the best!

  7. Hi Amandeep!

I am currently a junior and I wish I had more time here! My Aunt and Uncle currently live in Tulsa and whenever I go to see them I always have a blast! Currently I am a Finance major but I have been thinking about law school because pretty much everyone in my family is a lawyer. I hope you have a great last semester and good luck in the real world!

  8. Hi Amandeep,

What made you decide to go out of state for law school? My best friend goes to OCU Law School and will graduate in May. She's also going into corporate law. She's worked for 15 years in human resources, so she has a lot of experience working with the in-house law team, and I think that law team is who got her interested in going to law school.

I used to live in Stillwater and we would spend a LOT of time in Tulsa. There used to be a cover band called The Plumbers that played gigs all over downtown and we'd go to whatever club they were playing on the weekends. You wouldn't remember them, you would have been around four-years-old at the time of their popularity. Hopefully, you weren't frequenting bars at that time of your life!

    Thanks for sharing!

  9. Hello Amandeep,
Congrats on graduating soon. I graduate after this semester, and I couldn't be more ready to get the hell outta dodge. Happy late birthday, by the way. Do anything fun? I'm 22 as well, but I'd argue that I've still got quite a ways to go till I feel like I've learned a lot. Looking forward to reading your writing this semester.

  10. Hey Amandeep,
I agree with you that different types of food are amazing. I have recently discovered Greek and Indian food and I am in love. I understand your disappointment to being allergic to eggs. My mom is the exact same way and she is so allergic that she cannot get a flu shot or she will have to go to the hospital. Alfredo pizza is definitely the best choice for sure. I hope this semester goes well and congrats on graduating.

  11. Amandeep,

I hope you get into the Law School that you want to attend! I've met a few people in Oklahoma who are absolutely in love with Tulsa. As someone who isn't a native of the state, I'm not sure I understand the obsession- isn't it just another city? Is there something specific I've missed that makes Tulsa amazing?
Food is life. There is nothing better than great food. I wish I was a better chef and was willing to go above an beyond to make great food. It's difficult to buy something as specific as sour cream for a recipe when I know I won't use it otherwise. I'm hoping that will be a easier when I reach a point in my life when I'm cooking for more than just myself. Are you a good cook?
    It's nice to meet you!

  12. Amandeep,
Nice to meet you! I sincerely hope that you are able to accomplish your dreams of getting in Law School! I actually was in Tulsa this weekend for the Big 12 Wrestling Championship at the BOK center and you are absolutely right- Tulsa is unlike any other city in the state of Oklahoma. In a way, it gave me anxiety, though, because of how big it was!

  13. Hi Amandeep!

It is so nice to meet you! I'm also a senior here, I can't believe the time passed so fast. I think it's great that you chose to be so involved in the campus community. We definitely need more people like you! Oh wow, alfredo pizza sounds so good. Clueless is also one of my favorite movies too! Good luck this semester, and at law school in the fall! :) you got this!

  14. Hey Amandeep! Congrats on reaching senior year! I'm sorry things don't seem to be working out the way everyone expected. Hopefully this won't cause any issues with law school! As a Maryland native I get excited anytime someone says they've been to the Baltimore/DC area. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip! Hopefully the transition to online hasn't been too rough. Stay safe!

  15. Hello!

It’s very impressive that you’re Pre-Law and Psych major. I haven’t met many students that want to go into law probably because I’m Pre-Med so I’m always surrounded by other Pre-Med students. I would love to read more about your experience as a Pre-Law! What are your classes like? Did you take the entrance examination? If so, how was it? How did you prepare? I’m glad to hear that you exercise! I enjoy staying fit as well. I have to relate with you about calling your mom. I always have to call my parents. Anyway, I hope everything works out well for you!

  16. Hi Amandeep,
Glad to hear that you have involved yourself on campus in various activities. That is one of my biggest regrets is not getting more involved at OU and around campus earlier. Cool to see another OU student from Oklahoma. Seems like our state school is getting invaded by mostly Texans. Happy to hear that you are so passionate about Tulsa. I constantly see people in "everyone loves Tulsa" around campus, so I guess you aren't alone in loving that city!

  17. Hi Amandeep!

Happy very late Birthday!! It is awesome how much you enjoy your hometown. I wish I could say the same! I actually did not know that the movie Clueless was based on a book. Now that I am going to have some more freetime once I graduate maybe I will pick up a copy and read it. I wish you the best of luck in law school!

  18. Hello Amandeep,
This is so odd! In the past couple of weeks, you're now the third person who's told me (albeit indirectly, in your case) that they're allergic to eggs. Each time the person was like you and ate eggs almost every morning for breakfast. I wonder what's in those bad boys that's making everyone feel ill... May I suggest switching up your breakfast routine?
