Week 8 Reading and Writing

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this class and reading the different Indian Epics. There are so many lessons to be learned about morals and social constructs from these stories that are still applicable today. Overall, I was pretty happy with my blog and website. I have been wanting to change the background color and organization of my blog for a while but I didn’t know if I was allowed to this late in the semester. So I was happy to go back and change the color of my blog, and I added a different organizational outline for my posts (that I like much better). I think my biggest writing accomplishment for this class is actually my reading notes. I have tried my best to be as detailed as possible because for me that the best way to learn is to be detailed in my note-taking. I feel like I could just reread my reading notes and remember all the details from the actual stories. So far, my favorite reading has been the Ramayana, especially the beginning. I know the later parts of the Ramayana are more critical to the plot and character development, but I enjoyed how light and easy the beginning of the story is. It was nice to follow Rama as he met and fell in love with Sita and how their love story unfolded! I think the reading notes have been helping me in keeping my thoughts organized. Between the old English writing style and all the different things going on in the stories, I think the notes help me decipher what I’ve read and fully understand what is going on.

This image has been my favorite from previous posts because I think it accurately represents all the chaos that was happening during the war in the Mahabharata. You see the leaders in the middle of the circle, with all their men and elephants, surrounding them. There a lot going on in the image but I think it accurately shows what war can look like. Looking forward, I want to stay more on top of my writing and do more stories. I think that has been a very rewarding part of the course so I want to make sure I focus on it. Now that we have read the two big Epics, I am also excited to read some of the smaller stories and hopefully have the opportunity to explore some of the less well-known stories. I know India is more of a collective culture so I'm excited to read more stories about family and social norms. I’m looking forward to the rest of the semester.
