Reading Notes Part A: Krishna Epified Videos

For this week, I wanted to do something different so I decided to watch the Krishna videos! I know a little bit about Krishna but I have always heard that he was a prominent individual in Hinduism so I was excited to learn more about him. I also wanted to watch the videos since I hadn't done any of the video options in the past!

The story begins with Krishna's birth. Specifically with King Kuntz, for whom it was predicted that Devaki's (his sister's) eighth child would be the King's end. To prohibit this, the King killed all of Devaki's children. When it was the 7th child, the child was transported by a goddess from Devaki's womb to Rohini's womb. Therefore, everyone thought she Devaki had a miscarriage. Then Devaki's 8th child was the reincarnation of Vishnu. Vasudev, to protect his son, then left into the night, escaping the sleeping cards. He reached the Yamuna and he asked for help to cross the river. There a serpent came to help him reach the other bank and there they ran into Yashoda. Yashoda had given birth to a baby girl, Maya, but Vasudev placed his son there and took the girl. Then when King Kuntz came to kill the little girl, the 8th child, the girl turned into Goddess Durga. (This was great, cuz he judged her a female, but she gave him a great speech about women empowerment).

Now we move to Yashoda, who was a little confused when she found Krishna because she thought she has given birth to a girl. Then one day, a women-demon named Putana came to steal Krishna away. As she has him poisoned breast milk, Krishna was taking powers out of her. Putana was Kuntz sent demon. Krishna seems to be a light for trouble becuase he would constantly attract trouble. He became known for his mischievous ways and for troubling the Gopi's. He also became known as the butter thief, Makhan chor. (We also learn that Balram was Rohini's son, so he was his actual brother I think.)

One day when Krishna was said to be eating Mudd, he opened his mouth and Yashoda saw the world in Krishna's mouth. She came to terms that she was the mother of the Vishna, not a normal child. Soon, the family moved cities and at this time, Krishna's love for music started. One day, Krishna's friend had been bitten by the snakes and Krishna challenged Kalia. He did Shiv's tandem and the snake, Kalia, could not take it anymore and cease. Then followed multiple other adventures in which bad events and demons attacked Krishna, but he used his eternal powers to overcome it. Kuntz was running out of monsters.

Then during the annual rains, Krishna should his leadership and convinced Nand to pray to the Goverdan Hills instead of to Indra. This upset Indra and he sent much rain and thunder to upset the village people to listen to Krishna. But Krishna lifted the hill and used it an umbrella to save the people from the heavy rains. Indra realized his mistake and who Krishna was and therefore begged for Krishna's forgiveness. Then we learn a little about Krishna's love, Radha. She was a girl with a pure heart and they had grown up together as kids in the same town. Many times people tried to test their love, like making Radha drink hot milk but she felt no pain. Rather, Krishna got blisters. Then one time, when Krishna fell ill, Radha gave water to him from her bucket (even though it could mean going to hell for her).

I am excited to continue to part 2. I know Krishna is known to be a ladies man so I can't wait to see how his story develops with Radha. Also, learn more about his role as Vishnu on earth.
